Mitzvah Invitation Signature



You would think that every parent would be smart enough to get their own name right on an invitation! Well, no! It happens often enough that it merits a few words here.

If your name changed in the last few years (whether through marriage, remarriage, divorce, etc) and there is a chance that some of the invitees may not figure out who the host is, you can include your former name in parenthesis for clarity's sake. Or you might consider adding a personal note or additional card with the clarification to those who might not know you by your new name.

In my family, one of the cousins decided to legally change their name and never bothered to tell anyone. When the wedding invitation of their daughter arrived, it took several weeks for us to figure out who had invited us since no one was willing to call the "Reply To" number and admit stupidity. So if there's any doubt in your mind, make it easy on everyone.

There are some invitations which include the grandparents as the hosts. Their names can be added just below the names of the parents or alongside, depending on the design and aesthetics. An elegant and respectful format which can be used is as follows:
